JUSTICE - Stolen secrets, $250,000 in cash, a resume and a pipe-bomb fill four briefcases of four people. In a single day, their lives intertwine and their fates are decided by Justice.

Impact on My Life: This project was a valuable learning experience. The re-edit was a painful, but necessary process to give the project its proper due. Making Justice invigorated me with creativity that had been lacking for some time. It was nice to see storyboards actually come to life, instead of just sitting in a drawer. However, the amount of time to get it completed makes me wonder if I should do another short or go for a DV feature... ahh, decisions.

JUSTICE DIGITAL REMASTERING COMPLETED!

Months of re-digitization and re-edits are finally complete! JUSTICE, the award-winning short, has been remastered and should be available for Sale or Trade by Christmas 2001! We'll have more on this in the near future.

JUSTICE NABS TWO AT 2001 RMAs!

Also... JUSTICE has won two awards at the 2001 REwind Movie Awards, held in Rapid City, South Dakota. Justice won Best Drama and Best Story! You can read more about it at the REwind Video website!

Winning Best Drama is perhaps the most coveted award for Local Talent Productions, as we were up against the best in the amateur film community. It's an honor to have competed against likes of Random Foo (Voice of Reason), Pangaea Films (The Waking Dream), Jodom Pictures (Kilroy Was Here) as well as Queequeg Films, which won this years Best Feature award for their film The Bags.

So, congratulations to everyone who helped in the completion of the project! Without your help, we never would have been this successful!

Production Notes: Justice was originally storyboarded years ago. However, the logic of the story had holes in it, so we never made it. Eventually the story was revamped and the logic holes were filled. After dealing with the acting issues in Raw Footage, we decided to select Justice to shoot next since there is no dialogue... or real sound, for that matter. This goes back to our Super 8 roots. Only images and a soundtrack.

Critical Assessment - Other than my Snazzi MPEG-1 quality blowing chunks when you watch it on television (as opposed to on your computer), the project was a great success. It moves surprisingly quick for a 49 minute film. I'm very pleased with the finished product. And the lead actors, Tim and Dea did a tremendous job.

Re-Edit Update: The re-edit was painful... I'll be honest. Re-editing a project that you already completed is a total pain in the butt. Combine that with the fact that I didn't log things well and it made for a wholly unpleasant experience. However, the project was good enough, I believed to have it's end result be at the best quality possible. So, I trudged through and was able to finish it. The good part was the learning curve that I overcame regarding software and technological issues... the bad part was the early part of that learning curve.

Hard Facts - Justice was shot over a period of six months. About half of the project was shot before the director had to have intestinal surgery. The second half started shooting two months later and was interrupted by Hurricane Gordon. After several failed attempts at getting one of the actors (the director's brother) to commit to his final two shoot dates, the director had to take over the roll and reshoot his scenes. How this will effect the holidays has yet to be determined

10/14/00 - Completed 95% of all shooting this past weekend. Reshot scenes with Director replacing the role played by his brother. Only have two major scenes left to shoot. Will finish shooting within next two weeks.
12/30/00 - Completed music and editing in Nov/Dec. Am finally putting a master onto tape. Will put some on VHS for review purposes, but then the master will go onto MiniDV.
10/22/01 - Almost a year later, the digital remaster/re-edit is complete! Man, I've lived with the project A LOT longer than I anticipated!
