LOCAL TALENT HOME THEATER PROJECT - DONE!!!!

Update: Candy and DVDs - 7/06/05

I started working on the mini-concession stand area. The top half will be for DVD storage with shelves made of oak. The bottom will have an oak counter top, with polyurithane over it. The bottom right of the space will have a mini-candy stand made of oak, with angled shelves so you can see the candy and (hopefully) a glass door. The right side has a mini-fridge that will be covered over by the counter top.

Update: Mini-Concession Stand - 08/08/05

The first step of converting the space into a mini-concession stand is to get the top on it. Since the space is uneven and not level, we cut a 1/4" plywood as a template, then used that to cut a 3/4" oak/plywood top.

We propped up the desk with some spare 2x4s to keep the wood from sagging until the base of the candy stand is built to support it.

Update: Mini-Concession Stand - 8/23/05

I worked five hours last night trying to finish the Concession/Candy rack. I attached the outer pieces of the 3/4" oak/plywood to the base and stained it, sliding it under the propped up wood top.

I then stained the interior and then attached the interior to the under side of the wood top.

Since the depth of the the concession/candy rack is deeper then than shelves to hold the cnady, I had to figure out a way that I could attach the shelves at an angle with a ledge in front to hold the candy on the shelf and so I could remove the shelves to access the storage space behind the shelving. It finally occured to take a single piece of 3/4" oak/plywood and notch out angled areas for the shelving to slide in. Putting identical holders on each side assures they would be level. I glued and stapled them into place.

After that I stained the molding and wood top and glued and stapled everything in place.

I then attached a front piece of 1 1/2" x 1" oak wood to the front of the shelf, stained them and slid them into place. Once the facade on the front is in place, I'll be able to hide the front edging and give plenty of room for the shelves to slide out. It's a very cool idea and implemented well.

It was a very productive evening and I'm about 90% done with this part of the project.

Update: Concession Stand Done! - 8/24/05

We finshed off the Concession Stand and DVD Storage area.

Stained and Done! Thank God!

Candy gets stacked on the shelves on the left.
The colas will be stored in the mini-fridge on the right.

Update: Candy and DVDs - 9/20/05

I started moving the DVDs into their new storage location above the mini-concession stand.

After putting all of my DVDs in place, I have a little room for growth,
but not a lot. The fridge is full of colas. I still have
to put candy on the shelves.
