THE BOX - Digital Feature -
Below are the breakdowns of each of the major characters. Since this is a micro-budget film, we are putting all of our money onto the screen, so all talent must agree to work on an unpaid or deferred basis. However, we promise to work hard, work quick and have fun in a professional atmosphere. Our team includes an award-winning writer and director and a production team with years of experience in both television and film. The project would probably fall under the PG-13 rating and there is no on-screen nudity. Our current schedule has us shooting the project over a three week period in October. So, if you're in the Tampa Bay area and interested in auditioning, please send you headshot and resume to pete@localtalentfilms.com. We'll be holding auditions soon and sides will be made available to those asked to audition for this project. Don't be shy! We look forward to hearing from you! CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS: DAN - mid-30's to mid-40's, large, simple, wanting. GED educated, Dan struggles as he tries to balance the financial realities of life with the inner fire to be a part of something special, of wanting to make his mark in the world. He searches for his purpose on this planet, not satisfied with the day to day, but limited by his own lack of education and talent to do little else. He's married to Louise and has a close relationship with Lil' Jenny, who, though not her real father, has given her more fatherly love than any of the other men in Louise' life. LOU (Louise) - mid-30's to mid-40's, fiery, passionate, forgiving. Louise understands that life offers little more than pain and discomfort, but finds relief in the love of her husband and her daughter. She is the cornerstone of the family unit and demands a lot from those she loves. But, at the same time, she is intimate and timid and compassionate. She has a natural understanding of the big picture, of the spiritual ramifications of acts. The light of an inner peace somehow shines through her weathered face, having to overcome the loss of five of her previous husbands to natural causes. LIL' JENNY - 8, enthusiastic, challenged, artistic. More innocent than even her eight years, she is a bit on the slow side, but has her mother's original passion for life. She has not understood the grief that has surrounded her family. She does not really remember her father and has learned to live in her own sheltered world as father-figure after father-figure has come and gone. She has a special place in her heart for Dan, but she fears to reveal it as she has finally begun to understand the reality of loss. She is enthralled with pirates and fantastical stories of treasures and doing something magical with one's life. She searches for that one thing in which she may bring some mystical or practical relief to her mother and step-father. J.J. - mid-30's to mid-40's, slimy, desperate, loyal. He's the type of man who's a little too stupid and a little too slimy to attain the social level of a used car salesman. A fan of the more baser aspects of life, J.J. makes his way as a low-rent private investigator, hired by insurance companies to spy on suspect disability claimants. He hides his internal lack of self confidence with a limited bravado. He fancies himself a ladies man, yet has never had a date. He discovered as a child that placing a new, nine-volt battery to your tongue offers a uniquely strong jolt and has continued that habit everyday since. A high-school friend of Dan... the only friend of Dan's. And Dan returns the favor. ANDERSON - mid-30's to mid-40's, handsome, hermit, displaced. Anderson, the recipient of a large inheritance, spends his time mostly alone on an island in which he owns. He has little social skills and is a great believer in fate. So much so, that he feels he has discovered his true destiny. He has convinced himself that his purpose on this planet is to reveal to humanity the godless acts they have perpetrated in the name of science. He has hired a small group of armed assistants to infiltrate the seedier sides of those performing genetic experiments and has planned a wake-up call for the nation... starting with the collection of a single Box. DANTE - 30's, hardened, hollow, narcissistic. Dante has come to a simple, yet powerful understanding... money rules everything. And it is in his passion for the procurement of money that lead him into the fated arms of Anderson. Searching for some greater meaning, Dante's skewered mental capacity latched on to the prophecies of fate, as spoken by Anderson. Together they have developed a lasting, yet dysfunctional friendship based solely on their own twisted interpretations of the world, a world in which they believe they will lead to some sort of salvation. THOMAS - late 20's, gangly, average, attentive. A newbie just out of an overly long stay in college, Thomas anxiously awaits his baptism into the world of genetic engineering. Grateful to have a job which can start to pay off his heavy college loan debt, he tries very hard to be the best chemist science has ever known. Though he believes himself incapable of subjective attachment when it comes to his work, he internally struggles with the reality of what he does for a living. DR. GEE - over 45, rotund, content, distant. Gee (pronounced like Gee Whiz), has been a chemist and genetic engineer since its scientific infancy. Though he refuses to believe his is at all immortal, he can't help but feel god-like as he resequences the genetic makeup of reality. The consequences of his work he ignores by using sarcasm and humor to cloud his mind with thoughts of things other than the true impact of the outcome of his chosen profession. He's convinced himself it is simply a job, like that of a carpenter, a plumber or a manager. NIGEL - over 45, Pakistani, impressionable, achy. Nigel was an extremely bright scientist who was one of the leaders in genetic experimentation. But after years of manipulating with the fabric of existence, Nigel grew fearful and became a prime target for Anderson's ultimate mission. He worked with Anderson in preperation for the collection of The Box, but was injured on the job and forced into disability retirement. CHET - late 20's, bloated, self-conscious, avid Jeopardy watcher. A police officer who overcomes his lack of true intelligence with the overuse of multi-sylablic words in an attempt to hide his incompetence through the fine art of the filibuster. At heart, he's a good man and a competent cop, but not much else. OTHER PARTS: OLD WOMAN - 70's, speaking. TEENAGER - Teen, boy, speaking. BIG-BREASTED COLLEGE CHICK - Silouhette only, 20's, endowed, speaking. CONVENIENCE STORE CLERK - any age over 18, non-speaking. CHEMISTS - 30's, non-speaking. MAINTENANCE WORKER - 20's, non-speaking. THUGS - 30's, non-speaking. COPS - 20's/30's, non-speaking.
